You know how it is. You get the urge to shop but you can’t so you hit eBay and Amazon. I found a big batch of the dishes I am collecting. I have enough settings for hubby and I but since these will be my special dishes, I am hoping for 6-8 place settings. One must have a goal!
I’ve seen a few ideas for saving your ears from the masks we are wearing in health care and else where.
There are surgical caps with buttons next to the ears (the mask elastic is hooked over the buttons).
There was a mass of headbands at work and I thought it was folks trying to hide weaves and hair dye that had grown out. Nope they have buttons on them just like the surgical caps.
There are these plastic strips with hooks on them. They are worn at the back of the head and the bands are hooked on them. I can’t use those. My hair would get caught and I’d need to cut them out!
Some women are making two little buns near their ears with their hair and hooking the elastic bands over those. I feel too old for that look.
Here is my hack….I wear my hair in a pony tail at work and now I add two small barettes behind my ears. When not wearing mask they are not very noticeable. They stay in my hair so I’m not hunting for them like I think people might be with the plastic strips.
The bands hook nicely over them.
The easiest way to remove the mask, is to pull the elastic off of the mask. It will then slide off without getting hooked.
Hope this helps someone else!
I did some stash busting this Easter weekend (hope you had a good one) and made some masks.
*NOTE: It is not clear that cloth masks will protect the wearer from infection but it may prove helpful in preventing the wearer from passing anything on.
All you folks who were teased for their vast twist tie collection are now in the privileged position of having a valued resource. The wire ones work well at the top of a mask to make it fit snugly around the nose. I used two together to get the right stiffness.
I had to fight the urge to add trimming to make it more “Victorian”. Not only would it have looked odd but it may have decreased its protection by adding virus sized holes or adding weight that pulled it down. If this goes on for an extended period of time, I may opt for making masks in assorted colors to coordinate to my outfits. Or use pattern materials to make up for the lack of bling….
